-  EUROLEAGUE TOP 5 TEAM ROSTERS COULD WIN NBA ATLANTIC WITH LESS SALARY

The NBA Eastern conference this season only has two teams, the Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers, that have legit shots at winning the 2013-14 NBA title, but the third best team record wise on January 1st are the Atlanta Hawks with an 18-14 record from the southeast division. The Heat, Pacers and the Hawks are the only teams in the NBA Eastern conference with a winning record and the Washington Wizards are 14-14 on the year, but every other team in the Eastern conference has a losing record and the NBA Atlantic division has all five squads that NBA fans pay to see, with losing records on January 1st. The Toronto Raptors are leading the Atlantic division with a 14-15 record and since they made the trade to send Rudy Gay to Sacramento and are playing through young players Demar DeRozan, Jonas Valanciunas and Kyle Lowry, they are 7-3 in their last 10 games, but the rest of the Atlantic division has lopsided losing records for the big money NBA contracts on the rosters. In second spot of the Atlantic are the Boston Celtics with a new coach from the NCAA college ranks and a 13-18 record, but that seemed to be the Boston and Danny Ainge plan all summer, get one of the big name college players in the upcoming 2014 NBA draft and that was also the plan of Philadelphia 76ers new GM Sam Hinkie, as the 76ers sit at 9-21 on January 1st. The Raptors, Celtics and 76ers are where they thought they would be on January 1st, but the two big name New York squads, the Knicks and Brooklyn Nets, have high priced big name players on the rosters, but played more like Eurocup squads compared to Euroleague squads, if this was a European league season. The Nets are 10-21 and the Knicks are 9-21 and after Real Madrid won over FC Barcelona in Spanish ACB league play to go to 13-0 after already being 10-0 in Euroleague play this season, EUROJOHNBBALL was wondering how the top five Euroleague squads would do, if they were in the NBA Eastern conference Atlantic division this season, compared to the five NBA team rosters that are already there.

The top five squads in the Euroleague this year that could compete on a nightly basis versus NBA squads are Real Madrid, back to back Euroleague champs Olympiacos, CSKA Moscow, Fenerbahce and FC Barcelona. Looking at the Eastern conference, Real Madrid is the deepest Euroleague squad and would be a lock to win the Atlantic division and would be the third best team behind Miami and Indiana in the East and though back to back Euroleague champs Olympiacos has some young players on the end of their roster, they do still have clutchest and the best player in European basketball in Greek PG Vassilis Spanoulis and CSKA Moscow is also deep enough to win the Atlantic division, if they were in the NBA. The Fenerbahce and FC Barcelona rosters also could compete in the NBA this season and the top five squads of the Euroleague could play NBA level basketball, but at a much cheaper price than NBA owners are paying the veteran NBA rosters in the NBA Atlantic division, say New York and Brooklyn rosters that stand out the most, with lost draft picks in future NBA drafts.

Real Madrid have 12 NBA level players on the roster this year, Olympiacos has 9 players, but Spanoulis is the X-Factor, even at 31 years of age the best player in Europe, CSKA Moscow have 10 players on their roster with NBA ability and beat the Twolves this preseason and almost beat the Spurs in the same week, Fenerbahce have 11 players with NBA ability on the roster and FC Barcelona have 14 players with NBA ability on the roster.   Do not get EUROJOHNBBALL wrong, 12, 9, 10, 11 and 14 players from each of these Euroleague rosters that could make NBA teams, might not last long on the NBA teams, but in the team concepts that they are part of in Europe, they all show flashes of being able to compete at the NBA level and looking at the Real Madrid roster this season or the Olympiacos champion heart roster, you wonder what the owners in New York, James Dolan and Russian Mikhail Prokhorov are thinking paying much more money for 9-21 and 10-21 rosters in an Eastern conference that will probably go down as the worst ever in NBA history and again not to mention all the lost future first round picks from trades.
